The Burden
A pantoum about depression.
She leans her head upon her hands.
A heavy weight she cannot bear,
A burden no one understands,
Is hanging in her weary stare.
A heavy weight she cannot bear,
A weight that crumples her with pain,
Is hanging in her weary stare.
She cannot do this thing again.
A weight that crumples her with pain
Has crushed the life she used to know.
She cannot do this thing again:
No words will come, and no tears flow.
Pain’s crushed the life she used to know:
Her future now is bleak and bare.
No words will come, and no tears flow
For what is hanging heavy there.
Her future now is bleak and bare.
She leans her head upon her hands
For what is hanging heavy there:
A burden no one understands.
