Reflections

A group of haiku inspired by the ponds at Polcuta

Reflections

Reflections

The pond is a blue mirror
holding the tree still
for the camera

~

Underground water
seeps to the sunlit pool -
dreams recollected

~

Mist in the valley -
on three ponds, the lightest wash
of watercolour

~

She treads carefully
down the slate steps to the pond,
between silences

~

Five goldfish flicker
above five goldfish shadows -
a heron watches

~

The surface ripples
above deep stone shadows
making them shiver

~

Underwater green
holds true to its own stillness,
erasing all scripts

~

Scatter-tracks of fish
on the pond’s rippling surface -
shadows far below

~

Rain patters lightly,
touching the weed-filled pond
with cool caresses

~

The cloud has come down
to the still pond. They mingle,
substance and shadow

~

The cow contemplates
her own reflection, stirring
among wet reeds

~

Moorhens dip and glide,
breaking the surface tension -
their skyscape ripples
